Avenue of Scarecrows at the Davis Farmer's Market Fall Festival! Elementary and Junior High School students built creative scarecrows and auctioned them off at the Farmer's Market Fall Festival on Oct. 30th. All proceeds went to support Davis school gardens.
Hoes Down Festival: Davis Farm to School volunteers helped staff the fun educational booths at Full Belly Farm's annual Hoes Down Festival this fall. Volunteers helped mill wheat and make fresh salsa with excited kids while pausing to give advice on bobbing for apples technique.
Matching Garden Grants: Nearly all schools in the Davis Joint Unified School District were awarded Davis Farm to School PTA Matching School Garden Grants this fall of $500. (14 out of 15 schools, including DaVinci, King High School and Fairfield Elementary) This is the highest participation rate yet. Thank you to the school parent organizations that pledged to match this grant in support of school gardens!
Dos Coyotes Partnership: Dos Coyotes Border Cafe donated $.50 from every Chicken Apple Quesadilla sold the month of November to Davis Farm to School! (quesadillas featured local Apple Hill apples) Thank you to Dos Coyotes.
Davis Food Co-op Wine Tastings: Davis Farm to School was the beneficiary of the Co-op's bi-monthly wine and beer tastings July - November of this year. Tasters enjoyed local and usual wine and beer selections with samplings of the Co-op's famous cheeses.
Fall Garden/DavisRISE Coordinator Meeting: The Fall meeting, held at Fairfield Elementary School, gathered garden and recycling school coordinators, volunteers and teachers for an afternoon of resource sharing, a tour of Fairfield's expansive school garden, small group discussions and a delicious dinner catered by the DJUSD Student Nutrition Services featuring local, seasonal produce.
