2016 Custodian Luncheon
The Holmes Jr. High MPR was festively decorated with colorful blooms from Metzger's Zinnia Patch and the student group, Mariachi Puente, (led by Ximena and Hiram Jackson) added musical fun as the Davis Joint Unified School District maintenance and operations staff, administrators and custodians gathered in late July for the annual Custodian Luncheon. This event was started by Dorothy and Alan Peterson and is hosted by Davis Farm to School to thank our hard-working district partners who support recycling, fresh food and school garden programs.
The annual award ceremony recognized the following for their outstanding contributions:
Outstanding Custodian Awards: Jim High, North Davis Elementary; Doug Kuntz, Holmes Jr. High; Luis Ramirez, Birch Lane Elementary
GRROW (Garden and Recycling Recognition for Outstanding Work) Awards: Alisa Haller, Cesar Chavez Elementary; Keri Hawkins, Holmes Jr. High; Jim Herrington, DJUSD; Judy Leatherman, Montgomery Elementary; Martha Quenon, Holmes Jr. High; Amy Thomson, DSIS.
Student Community Service Awards: Sithmi Jayasundara, Zhen Larsen, Abby Lo, Patrick Song, Kenneth Wang (all from Holmes Jr. High)
After the awards ceremony we enjoyed a delicious potluck luncheon including salads, grilled pork tenderloin, melons donated by the Davis Farmers Market and a variety of homemade desserts. For the first time, we sponsored a Best Salsa Contest and both Beatriz Carillo-Morales and Rachel Gonzalez received prizes for their popular salsa entries.
